Unemployment Extension 2012

Federal extended unemployment benefits are effective through 2012 with different stages of benefits obtainable on your unemployment status and the state (here Pennsylvania) from which you are receiving benefits. Present unemployment benefits will remain in position until May. Then the number of weeks of extended unemployment benefits will gradually be reduced to 73 weeks in states with high unemployment and 63 weeks in other states.

As the alterations are put into practice, weeks will be sliced from some of the tiers and there are new necessities for tiers to be available depending on state unemployment rates. However, unemployed workers receiving state benefits that will run out now and the end of the year will be entitled for extended benefits. Jobless workers extended benefits will be able to move to the subsequent tier based on the new guidelines.

Tiers of Extended Unemployment Benefits

The unemployment extension legislation accepted by Congress in February 2012 changed the way the tiers of Emergency Unemployment Compensation is prepared.

There are at present for tiers of unemployment benefits. A tier of unemployment is an extension of a definite amount of weeks of jobless benefits. Each tier offers extra weeks of unemployment in addition to basic state unemployment benefits.

The subsequent information includes features on the weeks of unemployment benefits included in Tiers 1-4 of extended jobless benefits, qualifying factors for tiers to be obtainable, and the maximum number of weeks of joblessness that are available for laid offs.

There are no modifications to the tiers of extended unemployment benefits through May 2012.

Here’s a general idea of how the tiers will alter, the number of weeks included in each tier, and the state unemployment rate which sets off the additional tier of benefits.

Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) Tiers through May 2012:

  • Tier 1: 20 weeks
  • Tier 2: 14 weeks
  • Tier 3: 13 weeks if the state unemployment rate is 6% or higher
  • Tier 4: 6 weeks if the state unemployment rate is 8.5% or higher unless state doesn’t have EB, then 16 weeks

Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) Tiers June – August 2012:

  • Tier 1: 20 weeks
  • Tier 2: 14 weeks if the state unemployment rate is 6% or higher
  • Tier 3: 13 weeks if the state unemployment rate is 7% or higher
  • Tier 4: 6 weeks if the state unemployment rate is 9% or higher

Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) Tiers September – December 2012:

  • Tier 1: 14 weeks
  • Tier 2: 14 weeks if the state unemployment rate is 6% or higher
  • Tier 3: 9 weeks if the state unemployment rate is 7% or higher
  • Tier 4: 10 weeks if the state unemployment rate is 9% or higher

Maximum Number of Weeks of Unemployment

With the amendments, the highest weeks of available unemployment benefits depending upon location are:

  • 99 Weeks: March – May
  • 79 Weeks: June – August
  • 73 Weeks: September – December

It’s important to check with  unemployment office for a determination of extended jobless benefits to make sure you meet PA unemployment eligibility criteria.

    1. your best bet is to write to them or either go to the place where they have you register for jobs because you will never get through!! ugh ive worked29 yrs straight, collected UC for 6 months and was just told that my acc bal was 0!!!! and i cant help but to wonder why some people were getting it for so long and hardly ever held a job!! smh

  9. I have tried for three days to get through on 18883137284 after finding out I’m done with tier two benefits. I tried several other numbers I had. Just called 1-717-787-3547 to ask if there was any other way to file for an extension. The guy literally hung up on me! I was shocked. What if he were unemployed, how would he feel? I can’t seem to find the form to re-apply online either. i’ve gone through all the sites i can find online and not found anyhting but advertisements, etc. They make it so difficult hoping you’ll just give up like so many other hard working americans have done. What is the best way to find the correct e.u.c. benefit site?

  10. Thanks , I’ve recently been looking for information approximately this subject for a while and yours is the greatest I’ve found out till now. But, what concerning the bottom line? Are you sure concerning the source?|What i don’t realize is in truth how you are no longer really much more neatly-appreciated than you might be now. You’re very intelligent.

  11. I also have been trying to contact the PA unemployment office by the only phone number available and surprise the phone is constantly busy. Its like they took the phone off the hook. What happened to the time when there was an automated answer that your could leave a msg and someone would call you back if they are too busy. Well, I guess customer service is out the window when it comes to the State employees. As long as they collect a paycheck, who cares what, if anything, they do with their time per hour, they are being paid. Come on PA, think of your residents that pay taxes.

  12. my unemployment has run out i was told that there is only one 5 week extension i need this where do i go to fill out forms online. why is this so difficult?

  13. my extended benefits have run out I called for my last check on December 23. Now they have passed an extension of benefits so how do I go about filing for these benefits Thanks

I have not heard anything as of todays date 1/4/2013. My phone number is 610-622-4396. I’m at my wits end. I am presently on the phone with uc center at 814-871-4311, and have a 50 minute wait. Thank you for any assistance you may give me.

  15. Hi, I called today to file for my Pennsylvania bi-weekly claim from the two weeks prior. The one week I claimed for was the week ending 12/29/12 and the second week ending 1/5/13. After I completed the filing questions I was then told my balance was zero. Based on reading other posts and the PA site, they have indicated I should have received notification two weeks prior to my benefits ending (zero balance) and I did not. I am freaking out over what I am going to do now and haven’t found specific answers on various sites/posts regarding this type of situation. Might anyone know if there is an extension of benefits for me? Like others, I did in fact call the office but got the busy response. I plan on trying all day tomorrow, but as you can imagine I’m quite upset as this took me by surprise and I was expecting the benefits to last longer. Any information regarding my situation would be greatly appreciated. Sincere thanks.

    1. yes you can receive extension the same thing happened to me right before christmas i had to call careerlink and they transfered me to the unemployment benefits i did it over the phone on a monday i received one week that wed then the second week that friday

  16. I had federal unemployment that ran out 12/29/12, and I have not received my extension application for unemployent, home phone# 724-282-9183

  17. Stop wasting your time on the phone. they are never answered. go into your lstate senator or representatives office. they have a super secret fax number and phone number that is answered immediately. i went to my local office Mike Vereb after the first week of frustration and all was handled in 10 minutes. including having talked to someone in person. stop wasting your time and have your local legislators help you.

  18. For those of you in Pennsylvania who have had trouble getting through on the phone to the UC, try visiting your local PA Careerlink office. They have a phone that dials directly and is given priorty. Hope this helps!

  19. Hopefully someone on here can please help/guide me in the right direction?? I filed for my unemployment & was told at the end, my claim is now at zero! Am I still going to receive my payments this week?? And does anyone know if there are any extensions left? I haven’t ever used any extensions & desperately need to know if I will even receive a check this week??!!! I’m sure the ppl who work there wouldn’t be so unbelievably rude if they were a single mother trying to raise a child, pay a mortgage & put food on the table!!!!! Any info is GREATLY appreciated!! Thank you.

    1. I am in the same boat as you. Almost exactly the same. I’m curious did you receive any payment?

      Thanks

  20. Hi, Can someone help me. I filed for unemployment in June of 2012 and collected 26 weeks. I continued to fill and received another 13 weeks which I assumed was Tier 1.
Today I received a letter my benefits are done. Doesn’t seem right to me and I have called and the wait time is 1 hour. Can anyone tell me if this information is correct.
    Thanks,

  21. Having been on the phone for hours today only getting a busy signal.Unemployment rates are not down.I never asked to be fired after 26 yrs, perfect employee record all the way around,I have to say it was a black and white issue.I need the extension and need to know if there is a limitation for action on my behalf against this agency.Un justified firing.I got benefits because my confirmation said the agency stated that i broke no rules.Yes we had a union that i paid into almost 50 dollars a month.26 yrs.I had a greivence but was not offered anything beyond that.No arbitration, yet the other person that was guilty of abuse got all considerations. That woman is black. Here i sit worried about my mortgage modification trial ,hoping that they do not cash my check til the first of the month as agreed because i don’t know if the $ will be there. No notice from unemployment about my zero balance….Its a great life if you have a strong drive.Any lawyers need a good case? Agency and union?

  22. I left a comment above ,some how it is among comments dated Nov.2012.My comment was posted Feb.25.Please read and advise.
    Thank you.
    Sincerely
    Pat.

  23. After 17 years I was “relieved of my duties” for no valid reason. Never had a write up or a warning for the entire 17 years. Filed for UC benefits and received the 26 weeks and was told i had exhausted my benefits. I asked about an extension and was told I couldn’t get it. I questioned why so many people I know were getting extensions for years and was told that the bill was waiting to be signed. Until then there are no extensions. That was back in April. Been working with my boyfriend doing tree jobs but it isn’t steady and is now slowed down significantly. Can’t even file a new claim. I ‘ve tried. So now what? ??

    1. Well,we can understand the ordeal going through this.

Unfortunately, there are thousands who remain jobless and have exhausted their benefits. There is no extension(E.U.C) available across the country at this time.

      Please stimulate your jobs searches.

    1. Unfortunately, there is no extension(EUC) available at this time across the country.

Please check with the labor dept in your state for other benefits availability.

  24. I have worked my entire life and only used unemployment benefits one other time. I am sad that there is no extension at this critical time in my life. Due to the economy??? I am getting punished for something totally out of my control. For those that have worked a long time, extensions should be available. I have been putting in applications left and right but may lose my home and car if income does not start to come in soon. Extensions stopped in 2013??? Sad because it is 2016. I think the extension expiration should be lifted. Not fair to PA workers who work hard. I was downsized. I did not choose to lose my job after 14 1/2 years. Just venting.

    1. I can understand your frustration.

Please speak the Unemployment Office in your state to inquire about any other form of monetary benefits available for you.

  25. It is now October 2017 and they still have not extended benefits! There are so many people on unemployment and struggling…I have worked for 50 years and this was the first time I was ever on Unemployment…and it was only because I had no other choice. Now my benefits are exhausted and I still do not have a job. Is there any Government official we can write to so we can complain about this and maybe get the ball rolling for a new Extension of benefits?

    1. Beverly,

I can understand your situation. Perhaps, you can write to the Governor’s office in this regard on getting like-minded people to sign up on forums such as change.org.
