Even if it’s annoying to wait so long, be polite to the person you get connected to and you will get a lot more assistance than if you are rude.

Whenever you call the PA unemployment phone number, ensure you have Social Security number, dates of employment and a paper to take down relevant notes.

  1. I work for a school during the school year and I have a seasonal part-time job in the summer months. I recently fractured my ankle and can’t work right now. Would I be able to apply for unemployment?

    1. My name is tamara l miller I cant get through through coumpter or phone for a week to reopen my clamed for dec 15th 2016 on

        1. When I call the service number, it just rings busy all day long. When I filed my biweekly claim on Christmas, I was never paid that week. I am afraid that I will not get my money this week. I am keeping my fingers crossed. Because at this point, unemployment owes me quite a bit of money.

          1. It looks like there was an issue with the phone lines during the last week of December 2016.

I hope the issue is sorted now and you were able to contact the Unemployment Office.

        2. I was not able at all. I call all day from 8-4, over 300 times a day and cannot get through at any hour. I will try again this week.

          1. Due to an unprecedented shutdown of at least three call centers in the state, many calls from claimants are going unanswered. We also have strong reasons to believe that there will be a delay in processing claims and this situation is expected to continue for a few more weeks.

Please be patient or visit a local CareerLink office to get faster access to the Claims System by phone. You can also try filing the weekly claim over the internet.

        3. Hello,

I also have a question. I filed my biweekly claim as per usual, however, I only received payment for one of the 2 weeks. I checked my balance and I have more than enough left that I did not run out of funds. The weeks that it skipped is the one ending on 12/24/2016. The odd part is that my other week was paid, but this one wasn’t. I have tried calling the 888 number over 1000 times, and all I get a busy signal. Any advice?

        4. I have been trying to contact unemployment since the first week of December 2016! It is now January 11,2017 and it is still a busy signal that comes over the phone when I call! This is ridiculous

        5. My husband has been trying all week from 8am to 4 pm to contact the office as he was not paid for his claim submitted on 1/9(via online) for week ending 12/31/16. He has been working for his employer for 28 years and every year at Christmas they shut down. The benefits are owed to him! He only had 16 hours the week ending 12/31/16 as they were paid holiday hours. He should have received a check for 24 hours. He already had his waiting week therefore he should have been paid by now. The phone rings busy every second of the day; how can that be possible? The website does not offer any information on why a claim was denied, why your benefits have been delayed. We also have not received any communication via postal service or email. They make it very difficult to receive benefits and extremely difficult to talk to a breathing person! It should not be this way as it is an office that should be serving the people of the Commonwealth! How very frustrating! Are the phones off the hook? I would be curios to see the number of calls the office actually answers in one day. Very curious to know how many telephones are actually utilized!

          2. I was hoping you would provide more options on how to contact the unemployment office, an office which primary function is to provide assistance to unemployed workers in the Commonwealth! I am no further ahead since I discovered this site. We are still waiting for payment. We are still frustrated! Our finances are still lacking! The UC office has been poorly managed for years and now it is worse than imaginably possible due to the layoff of 600 employees. Are those 600 employees receiving their benefits efficiently? I imagine they are!!! Your response did not validate the poor phone system. There is no possible way the phones are busy continously for 8 hours every working day!!! Perhaps an internal investigation needs to be performed. PA tax dollars would be well spent as this poorly managed office is affecting thousands of tax payers lives!

      1. I’ve had the same problem only my case was opened Dec. 4 2016. It seems it is impossible to get a phone number for unemployment to ask a question.

          1. I don’t think so since the email address suggests that it is not a “Support Center”.

If you’re lucky, they many forward your email to the appropriate department.

      2. Hi I’m calling in regard to my bi weekly not being direct diposited into my bank account. On wed Jan 25th I went down town to the commons building to use the direct line because you can not get through. I waited two hrs long to get this resolved and I thought it was, but here I am again with another issue waiting to receive my benefits. My first week was my waiting week and was supposed to be getting one week of my benefits. I’m supposed to file my next biweekly on the 3rd of feb, tomorrow. Please get back to me asap, thank you.

          1. I reopened a claim and I have a copy of my confirmation page showing my benefits date as 2/12/17. When I check online, it doesn’t show my claim was processed, nor have I received paperwork… letter of determination, booklet, etc. I expect that I will receive the same “canned” response everyone else on this page got, but I have no other recourse. The phone line for Allentown is no longer in service, and the main cust support line is busy 24 hrs/day. Do you suggest I just got TO the Allentown office in person? please advise! Thank you very much.

          2. You might be aware of the current situation. Please visit the nearest CareerLink office and speak to a rep. Most of the offices are only contact centers. They do not allow in-person visits.

          3. I’ve been waiting all week for my money to be deposited into my debit card. I haven’t received my money yet and when I call about last payment issued it gives me the dates from my last claim. How can check to see when my money will be on my card? Or whether or not being put on. I’ve tried everything and can’t get an answer

          4. Please try and check the balance at a terminal such as an ATM to check if the payment was credited.

  2. I have not recieved any unemployment forms. When the forms were sent, there were 7 forms… Also, I need a letter for Welfare, stating how much I recieve weekly which is $117.00.

      1. I have applied for U C & have not heard anything. Can you please let me know if I am eligible?

      2. I found out within a week that I was eligible for unemployment. But I haven’t received any of my claims and I have received a phone call from the on a Friday. In the message it stated that I wouldn’t be able to call them back that day because they don’t except phone calls on Fridays. I have been calling for the past two hours and I have called over 800 times in that time frame. Every time it is a busy signal. It is BS that an American has to go through all of this and an immigrant gets EVERYTHING handed to them when they enter the country. I guess Obama really NEVER lowered the unemployment rate, he just let office close down and then the American people aren’t able to get through to the office so then they don’t receive unemployment. That is how it is lowered, not by creating more jobs.

        1. Unemployment compensation is completely determined at the state level. If you want to see changes in unemployment you need to learn how it even works.

  3. I am getting my unemployment through minnsota and i need my hours transfered over from you guys i worked 7weaks in pa in feb, march in 2011

  4. If you know someone who was not truthful on their ap for unemployement and should not be getting money from the state due to fraud who do you report this to. If you retired on your own and you are getting your pension can you really say you lost your job when you requeted to leave and get your retirement. They are over 65 and not looking for work and have no plans to go back to work. The have social security 401 K and pensions. They left on their own. Applied for unemployment and got approved. They lied on ap

  18. Hello, my name is Michael. I have been working for the same company for three years with a six month break while i had went somewhere else to work. I returned under a different position but becasue the boss had run into a problem I did a favor and returned to my original position. Now almost two years later I am still stuck in the same place and am treated wrongfully and the environment of the company is stressful. Plus there are other happening that I feel give me a good reason to quit, but I am afraid that I will not be able to find employment right away. Will I be able to obtain unemployment if I quit and can provide a good reason to quit. Basically, there are things my boss does that I am sure the unemployment office would love to know with another one of the employees i work with.

  19. I got a call about needing information on my claim and to get ahold of her within 48 hrs, however she said her name is “Trina” and she gave me the toll free number but she didn’t give me her extension number to reach her directly. How would I go about finding this extension, I am not sure what to do and how to go about getting a hold of her. It was so busy today, maybe that meant that any worker can tell me the information they need but it was impossible to get through. Does anyone know of a worker extension list posted online? Any help would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks, Timothy

What I do not see is how the severance payments affect eligibility requirements around job searches, etc, Some key question :
1 -Must I file weekly/bi weekly for job search requirements, etc. (eligibility filing)
2 – If I must file, what shall I file? Eligible for claim, ineligible (and obviously what selection…..I use “other last week”

I really could use an answer on this as there are no clear instruction regarding this and the process.

    Bob

  43. I am trying to SPEAK to someone from Pa. Unemployment about my situation. It involves paying back an overpayment amount. I am frustrated. (I sent a check in on Nov. 13th and it hasn’t been posted to this date. I receive payment warnings but have done everything I can do (I only owe approx. $130.00) I just want to get some kind of answer since I take my credit rating very seriously.

  44. I tried all last week to contact the unemployment office but the phone was constantly busy. I’ve been trying again today & have literally been on hold since 11AM. It is now 2:30PM.
Does the Scranton office (Stauffer Industrial Park, Taylor) allow in person visits?
What I need can not be accomplished online. Going on my 2nd week of trying to get through on the phone is ridiculous.

    1. I am not really sure if those offices entertain personal visits.

Please see if you find phone numbers for these offices online to call and confirm.

  49. Hi, my name is Susan L. Arcuri, and I’m contacting you wandering when I’m going to receive my 3 mailings from when I opened an initial claim on Dec. 19, 2016. I’m going to be calling PAT on 1/1/17, and I didn’t hear anything from your facility yet. And I was wandering how much I would be collecting for a week, can you e-mail me and let me know, and let me know what’s going on, because I cannot get through to calling your facility. Thank you very much and have a Happy Holiday…. Susan L. Arcuri

  51. What good is the 1-800 number for unemployment when all you ever get is a busy signal? Nonsense.

    1. Please try calling during non-peak hours such as noon. If you’re trying to check some information, you can also log-in online and check.

  52. I have been calling the toll free Unemployment number since Dec 27. the line is either busy or it will ring 3 times then is busy. I need to talk to someone ASAP.

  53. I live in Erie PA. I cannot get through to the service center. I have been trying for days at over 300 calls a day for it to only ring busy. It keeps saying my claim is processed, but I am not receiving my payments. There is no issue with my employer, as I am only on a month lay off. And we do not have a local office to go to.

    1. It looks like there was an issue with the phone lines during the last week of December 2016.

  56. Hello, can I get any of my money sen to me on my issued card from state. I am paying back a over payment and don’t get any money, whats the point I don’t mind making payments to take all of my amount for benefits is crazy

  57. I have yet to receive my pin to file for biweekly benefits. The number remains busy.

  58. You never can get through by phone. The phone rings around 4 rings and then goes through to the busy signal. You can spend hours on the phone. I then went on line to re-open an existing claim, which I was not certain would work and guess what . It did not work. Now I lost the week that I wanted to file. Too late. Unemployment collecting is getting more and more difficult to do each year. So frustrated.

  60. When I went to file my bi weekly claim it said I have an open claim but it is inactive and would not let me file. I tried to call the service center over 600 times today and could not even reach the automated system it was a busy signal for 8 straight hours. I also tried to call yesterday for countless hours and the same thing. It would be nice if I can get ahold of a human being so this issue can be resolved I count on this money to feed my family and it seems I can never get through.

  61. Can I file retroactively? I was unemployed for 7 months but not eligible for the first 6 months because I was receiving severance, which ended 11/21. I’ve been trying to file my claims from 11/24-12/16 but can’t online (says my claim is inactive although I tried twice to reactivate it online around 11/29 and 12/9 but apparently it didn’t work). 888-313 # has been perpetually busy and when I went to the Exton Career Link site they just gave me the same phone # to call so that was fruitless. Can I call the Lancaster # or do I have to deal with the county I live in?

I LIKE THE THOUSANDS OF OTHERS HAVE CALLED NEARLY 100 TIMES SINCE FRIDAY AND IT IS CONTINUALLY BUSY, YET WHEN THE CLOCK STRIKES 3:00PM THE MESSAGE COMES ON. THERE MUST BE AN OFFICE WHO DEALS DIRECTLY WITH JUDGMENTS AND PAYOFFS … I’M TRYING TO GET MONEY FOR YOU, NOT FROM YOU!! I’M SURE YOU ARE A COMPUTER REPLYING WITH THE SAME ANSWER, BUT MAYBE A REAL PERSON CAN DIRECT ME ON HOW TO PROCEED.

News has been emailed and called. And state Rep like I was told to call has been called everything is closed now at 4pm more calls will be made tomorrow.

The first one I started was on 1/13/2017 and I notice that I forgot to put my Apartment number, So I want to get that fixed. Last week I was on hold for 1 hour and 11 mins, and then the call was disconnected, and still haven’t gotten through. Please help. I can’t file my first claim, because I dont have the information, or I have to wait another week. I really would like to get this resolved. Please contact me as soon as possible. Please email or Call at 304-224-9409

I look up my claim status on line and it just states “submit your biweekly claim as instructed”. The payment page shows what i am due to receive however no payments have been issued. I don’t know what else to do to get information regarding my claim/payments. Can I go to the local office in person?

  68. Good morning! I have been trying to return a call received Wednesday (01.25.17) regarding my UE filing. Like most of the statements above, I too am calling repeatedly, only to encounter a busy signal. However, the person who left the message stated I only have until January 31st, which is concerning if the call centers are closed. How can I meet a deadline stipulated by the PA UE if you do have the capacity to assist? Please advise.

  74. How do I find out the amount of benefits I received for the year 2011 , for tax purposes.

    1. You should be asking for 1099-G which will detail the benefits received for tax purposes.

Please call the Claims Center to inquire about getting one.

  75. My name is Omar Marshall. I have received some sort of Lien statement about an overpayment on my UC benifits FROM 2010. I appealed and lost after $1153 was seized from my 2016 taxes ( i moved to MD and never got any paperwork about this so I found out by my taxes getting taken) I expected to receive some sort of bill or way to make a payment arrangement after that. I did not expect to be billed for the ENTIRE $1651.18 SANS the $1153 you guys already took. NOW to make matters worse you guys aren’t even set up well enough to take calls without a busy SIGNAL??? Come on ! Phone has been busy ALL morning and by the looks of these complaints this is your MO. I do not want to hear anything about a shut down of offices bc it didn’t slow you guys down from seizing my entire 2016 taxes nor billing me for the same amount twice..why do you guys not have this same effeciency and speed when dealing with customer service? I AM NOT setting up any payment arrangement or paying a dime UNTIL someone contacts me or talks to me about why you guys can double dip on the amount owed, and I receive IN WRITING the corrected amount owed otherwise this is bordering on collection fraud. I will attempt to call your feeble excuse for a “customer service” line again , and again and again…but I will expect someone to be available to communicate with since you just willy nilly charge and lien without due recourse or the dilligence enough to check the amounts you are putting into lien – I’m a loan processor, I can ONLY imagine the fight I’ll have with you people about having this LIE removed from my Credit Report. I work for a non profit next to Congressman Elijah Cumming’s Office in MD ..My next step is to bring this matter to him and maybe the press to let them know how absolutely despicable you guys are at handling simple matters like correct billing or providing a customer service number that ACTUALLY works. Hopefully I will hear from you guys before you guys do more damage – UNCHECKED

    1. Omar,

Please note this is a private forum. We do have any links with the govt. or Unemployment Office. I suggest that you scan the paperwork to find phone numbers and speak to a representative for a speedy resolution.

  76. i opened my initial claim on March 24th. I found full time work for a month and then reopened my exisiting claim on May 7th. It is May 22 and my account still states inactive and I cannot file biweekly claims. I have tried to call the 888-313-7284 number as well as the local number and it rings busy all day every day except for after hours when you get a recorded message stating their hours.

    1. Please try checking the claim status online, on the department’s official portal. This channel is the best way to apply for and manage claims.

  77. It would be helpful if the email address for appeals was shown somewhere when you need to file and the automated system is not working properly.
